What do special needs students learn?
The learning ability of special needs students varies as greatly as our students themselves. Our instructors first focus on getting your student comfortable in the water while introducing water safety skills. Using a fun, gentle approach and aids such as visual cards, students learn to put their face in the water, submerge, blow bubbles, and kick. These basics prepare students to learn additional skills such as floating and grabbing onto the side of the pool. And depending on the student's ability, your student may move onto more advanced skills such as coordinated arm and leg patterns.
Our goal for special needs lessons is to teach basic safety skills while helping your student become comfortable in the water, as well as help push students to reach goals that are developmentally appropriate.
