Who needs to supervise my child during swim lessons?

Quick Answer: A parent or legal guardian is responsible for ensuring direct supervision of their child (under 18) during all lessons. While the legal guardian doesn't need to be present at every lesson, a trusted adult they've authorized must be there in their place.

Supervision Requirements by Age

  • Under 2 years old: A parent or guardian must be in the water with the swimmer at all times.
  • Preschool-age swimmers: We actually recommend parents watch from a distance or through a window — kids this age tend to stay more focused when a parent isn't right next to them! 🙂
  • All other swimmers under 18: A parent, guardian, or other authorized adult must be present poolside throughout the lesson.

Can someone other than the parent supervise?

Yes! A grandparent, nanny, or another trusted adult is welcome to supervise — as long as the legal guardian has given their consent. The guardian doesn't need to attend every lesson, but someone they've authorized must be there.

What if students from multiple families are sharing a lesson?

If your lesson package includes swimmers from more than one family, each child's legal guardian must:

  • Be listed on their child's account
  • Sign our Swim Lesson Agreement before lessons begin

This ensures every swimmer has the proper authorization and supervision in place.

Registering on behalf of another parent?

If you're completing registration for a child whose parent or guardian isn't filling out the form themselves (for example, you're a grandparent or family friend helping out), please make sure the child's parent or legal guardian is added to the account. They'll need to be on file for authorization and to agree to our swim policies.

💡 If you're an adult registering for your own lessons, you serve as your own legal guardian — no extra steps needed!
