π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ How Can I Use Lesson Time with Multiple Students?
Quick Answer: You can divide your lesson time between multiple swimmers however works best for your family. Most families schedule back-to-back private lessons (one child at a time), but semi-private lessons (two students together) are also an option if both swimmers are 4+ years old and at similar skill levels.
When you have multiple children learning to swim, we want to make scheduling easy and flexible for your family. Here's how it works:
β±οΈPrivate, Back-to-Back Lessons (Recommended)
The most popular option is scheduling private lessons back-to-back β one student at a time.
Here's why families love this setup:
- Each child gets focused, 1-on-1 instruction tailored to their needs.
- Your instructor only visits once, saving you time and coordination.
- Works perfectly for siblings with different ages, abilities, or comfort levels in the water.
- Each child progresses at their own pace without distractions.
π Example: If you book a 60-minute lesson block for two children, your instructor will teach one child for 30 minutes, then immediately teach the second child for 30 minutes. You get two complete private lessons in one visit.
Semi-Private Lessons (Two Students Together)
Some families prefer to have two students in the water at the same time for semi-private lessons. This can work well for siblings or friends who are close in age and ability.
Important guidelines for semi-private lessons:
Age requirement
- Both students must be 4 years old or older
Skill level
- Students should be at similar swimming ability levels
- Maximum of two beginners (non-swimmers) in the water at the same time
- Your instructor will assess whether the pairing is working well for both children's learning
Learn to Swim Guarantee eligibility
- Students in semi-private lessons are not eligible for our Learn to Swim Guarantee
- To qualify for the guarantee, each student must receive 30 minutes of private instruction per lesson
Instructor's discretion
- If your instructor feels semi-private lessons aren't the best fit for safety or learning effectiveness, they may recommend splitting the time into private lessons instead
What to Expect When You Book
When you register multiple students, you'll choose your total lesson time (30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes, etc.) based on how many children you're enrolling. Your instructor will contact you before the first lesson to confirm how you'd like to structure the time.
Not sure which format is best? Your instructor can help you decide based on your children's ages and swimming experience.
π‘Helpful Tips:
- Younger siblings often enjoy watching their older siblings' lessons first β it helps them feel more comfortable when it's their turn.
- Back-to-back private lessons work well even for children who are the same age but at very different skill levels (a nervous beginner vs an excited water-lover).
- If you're trying semi-private lessons and it's not working well, you can always switch to back-to-back private lessons with your instructor.
